A historic day took place on January 21, 2019 when classes began at the new Niagara University Campus, located at the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC). For the first time ever, a university is located in Vaughan!

Mayor of Vaughan Maurizio Bevilacqua expresses that it’s been his dream to bring a university to Vaughan. It’s been one of the most ambitious projects happening in Vaughan and really adds value to the city’s downtown area. Bevilacqua expresses that building a city means that its necessary to have a post-secondary institution in an urban setting, that’s walking distance from homes, businesses and amenities, while being connected to regional transit.

The Project

Bevilacqua helped with negotiations between the university and community leaders in order to get this project moving forward. Vaughan students are able to enroll in either a bachelor of professional studies in education or the master of science education programs. These programs are fully accredited by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) and are set to prepare students for primary-junior and intermediate-senior positions, combined with other educating opportunities.

About the University

Niagara University was founded in 1856, with its main campus situated in Lewiston, New York. This university sees about 3,300 undergraduate students in 50 academic programs. In recent years, the university was ranked #44 by U.S. News & World Report in the “Regional Universities North” category. It was also ranked best college or university in the Buffalo-Niagara area because of the valuable learning experience it offers students. It’s recognized for giving students the most for their money.

About the Campus

On January 21st, 300 students were welcomed to learn at this new campus. The site is 12,000 sq. ft. and includes 7 classrooms, faculty and administration offices. It also contains lounge areas for students located in Cortel Group’s Expo City complex, steps away from the VMC Subway Station.
